Assessment of self-esteem, sensitivity and effectiveness of dental clarification in the dental office: case report

Currently the search for a perfect smile has led to greater demand for aesthetic procedures, where tooth whitening is among the most sought after in dental offices. To report two clinical cases of tooth whitening and to evaluate the effectiveness, the sensitivity caused by the agent and the patient’s satisfaction with the color change. Both patients had good oral health conditions and were dissatisfied with the color of their teeth, underwent dental office whitening with 35% hydrogen peroxide. The treatment occurred, in both cases, in two sessions with an interval of seven days between them. The bleaching gel was applied in a 3:1 ratio of hydrogen peroxide and thickener, respectively, with a new application every 15 minutes, totaling 3 applications in each session. Thus, at the end of the treatment, there was a color change in the VITAPAN®️ Classical scale from A3 to A1. The patients answered two questionnaires, one of the individual's satisfaction with the aesthetic of the smile itself, applied before and at the end of the treatment, and another about the sensitivity using the Wong and Baker scale, at the beginning and end of each session. Results: the degree of sensitivity discomfort after the sessions was characterized as a discomfort that hurts a lot, but lasting only in the first 12 hours and the aesthetic color and patient satisfaction were achieved. Thus, tooth whitening is a simple procedure, minimally invasive and with excellent aesthetic results.
