INTRODUCTION: Thrombus is any blood clot that is formed within the circulatory system. Embolism occurs when, upon detachment from the bloodstream, the thrombus causes partial or total occlusion of veins or arteries. In Brazil, it is estimated that for every thousand inhabitants, two are affected by thrombosis.
OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the epidemiological profile of hospitalizations for embolism and arterial thrombosis in adults from 2019 to 2023. METHODS: This is an ecological study, carried out based on data collection by the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS ), made available by the secondary database of the Department of Information Technology of the Unified Health System (TABNET/DATASUS). From them, descriptive statistical analyzes were carried out based on the following sociodemographic variables: Region, color/race, age, sex and number of deaths. RESULTS: The results showed that the regions where hospitalizations predominate are: the Southeast Region with 16,720 hospitalizations, (45.65%) and the South; there is a higher prevalence of hospitalizations among White people, the race with the lowest hospitalization rate is indigenous. In relation to sex, our data observe the predominance of cases in males. In relation to age, the highest number of hospitalizations was in older adults, aged 50-59 years, with 20,263 hospitalizations (55.32%). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Through the data obtained, it is possible to conclude that hospitalizations were more prevalent in the Southeast region, followed by the South region. The study also observed a greater number of hospitalizations in older male adults, aged 50-59 years, which can be explained by aging itself, where there is a progressive decrease in organic functional reserve. According to color/race, we can analyze the dominance of hospitalizations in adults of white ethnicity. It is noted that other analyzes are necessary to confirm the trends in the data obtained by this study.
