PREVENTIVE CARE FOR DIABETIC FOOT IN THE FAMILY HEALTH STRATEGY

Abstract

To discuss, through scientific evidence, preventive care for diabetic foot in the Family Health Strategy. Methods: This is an integrative review of qualitative literature. The search for the works involved in the research was carried out in the following databases: SCIELO, LILACS, BDENF and MEDLINE, using the descriptors in health sciences: "Prevention", "Diabetic foot" and "Family Health Strategy". The inclusion criteria were: published between 2014 and 2024, with free access to the journal for full texts, articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish and related to the topic. Exclusion criteria were: duplicate, incomplete articles, summaries, reviews, debates, articles published in event annals and unavailable in full. Results: In the Family Health Strategy, both individual and collective interventions are adopted to meet the specific needs of the community, including the prevention of diabetic foot. This condition, characterized by damage to the feet due to diabetes, requires preventive care such as wearing appropriate footwear and maintaining foot health. The effective approach involves continuous education and support for patients to promote self-care practices. Conclusion: It is concluded that the integrative review highlights the crucial importance of the preventive approach in diabetic foot care within the Family Health Strategy. The effectiveness of individual and collective interventions, with an emphasis on continuous education and self-care, is essential to mitigate the complications of this chronic condition. Collaboration between healthcare professionals, patients and the community is essential to promote the health of diabetic individuals, reduce the risk of developing diabetic foot and improve their quality of life.
