Abstract
This review analyzes the rates of comorbidities linked to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), compared to society. It is verified that exposure conditions from the pre- and post-natal context, such as prematurity, influence the development of symptoms. It is observed that adults with ASD, resulting from concomitant comorbidities with the pathology, seek outpatient consultations on a larger scale, compared to other individuals, related to neurological, cognitive, psychiatric and physical conditions, such as Anxiety Disorder, Hyperactivity Disorder and depression. The study also evaluates how the panorama tends to overload a system that is unprepared to resolve the comorbidities faced by patients with ASD, due to the lack of knowledge of the clinical manifestations associated with the disorder and, thus, compromises the possibility of a better quality of life for them.
