Abstract

Atrial Fibrillation is the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia, affecting 33 million people globally. In 2023, there were 3,046 new cases and a prevalence of 37.574 million, an increase of 33% in 20 years. This study aims to analyze the epidemiological profile of death rates from AF and flutter in Brazilian territory. This is an epidemiological, quantitative and retrospective study. Participants were individuals who died from flutter and atrial fibrillation in Brazil between 2018 and 2023. The data was organized by age group, sex, race, education and marital status. The analysis included 24,224 individuals, with the majority of deaths occurring in people aged 80 or over (52.15%). As for sex, 56.02% were women and 43.98% men. In terms of education, 24.05% had 1 to 3 years of study. The majority of participants were white (63.04%). As for marital status, 38.68% were widowed. Thus, the highest frequency of death among white females, aged over 80 years, widows, with between 1 and 3 years of schooling and residing in the Southeast region.
