Abstract
Obstructive acute abdomen is characterized by a stop in the progression of intestinal transit and accounts for approximately 20% of cases of acute abdomen in the emergency department. This is an integrative review using the VHL, SciELO, LILACS and PubMed as databases over the last 5 years. 997 articles on the topic were evaluated with an emphasis on a synthesis of the most recent knowledge and greater scientific consistency. The patient with intestinal obstruction complains of pain and, mainly, abdominal distension, in addition to stopping the elimination of flatus and feces, typically with vomiting. In the history of the current illness, look for other signs and symptoms such as fever or appearance of vomiting (alimentary, bilious or fecaloid). It is concluded that the diagnostic evaluation in the acute abdomen starts from the clinical evaluation, with anamnesis and physical examination. Based on diagnostic suspicions, additional tests are performed depending on each etiology.
