Abstract
The treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2) aims to enable ideal glycemic control, consisting of lifestyle changes, in addition to drug treatment if necessary. In relation to hypoglycemic drugs, GLP-1 receptor agonists are new therapeutic options, helping with glycemic control and weight loss. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the influence of GLP-1 receptor agonist drugs in the treatment of patients with DM2. Thus, a search for articles was carried out in the Google Scholar, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) indexers to collect study data, using the keywords “Diabetes Mellitus”, “Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus”, “GLP-1 receptor agonists” and “incretins”. The effectiveness of GLP-1 receptor agonists in reducing blood glucose and promoting weight loss is concluded, in addition to offering additional benefits, such as improvement in markers of renal and cardiovascular function.
