Abstract
Oral cancer represents a serious public health problem, both globally and nationally, due to high rates of smoking and alcohol consumption, the main risk factors associated with this disease. This study's main objective is to analyze the importance of early diagnosis and comprehensive care for individuals with oral cancer in the context of public health. Focusing on new approaches for early diagnosis and analysis of the incidence of oral cancer can result in cost reduction for health institutions, by reducing the length of stay, the amount of materials and resources needed for the patient's hospital maintenance, as well as such as the costs of healthcare professionals dedicated to this treatment. The study was carried out through a narrative review of the literature on the topic, using the following online databases as research sources: SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences) , PubMed (National Library of Medicine) and Google Scholar. Oral cancer requires an effective response from dental services, being one of the pathologies that most affect patients' quality of life due to the impact of the treatment received. In the fight against oncological diseases of the oral cavity, the crucial role of stomatologists and family doctors in implementing Family Health Strategies actions stands out. Furthermore, it is essential to increase preventive awareness among the population about this disease.
