Abstract
In recent decades, it has been observed that overweight and obesity are on the rise in several countries, doubling the number of obese people. Bariatric surgery has become an alternative for individuals who have tried other types of treatment, such as diet, physical exercise, and pharmacological therapy, without achieving significant results. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the scientific productions on bariatric surgery published in the journal Arquivos Brasileiros de Cirurgia Digestiva (ABCD), as this journal is a reference in Brazil. To this end, a descriptive study with bibliometric analysis was conducted. The analyzed works were published between the years 2014 and 2024 and were available on the journal's website. Thus, it was found that field studies prevailed, with a higher predominance of researchers from the health area, especially from the field of Medicine, and published in Portuguese. Brazil stood out as the most prominent country, mainly from the states of Pernambuco (Recife) and Paraná (Curitiba). The most addressed topics were the effectiveness of weight loss, the impact on metabolic health, quality of life, postoperative complications, and the evaluation of surgical techniques. Finally, it is hoped that the findings from this bibliometric analysis will deepen the knowledge on the subject and increase interest and visibility in this area, in an attempt to reduce the inherent limitations in the discussion of the topic.
