Abstract

Cholelithiasis, characterized by the formation of stones in the gallbladder, is a common condition that requires effective therapeutic approaches. Traditional treatment involves surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy), but increasingly, there is a trend toward integrating medical and surgical approaches to optimize results. This integration aims to not only treat the acute symptoms of cholelithiasis, but also address the underlying causes and improve long-term quality of life. In this context, this review explores the integration between surgery and clinical medicine in the treatment of cholelithiasis, evaluating its effectiveness, benefits and impact on patients' clinical results. Objective: To investigate the effectiveness and benefits of integrating surgery and clinical medicine in the treatment of cholelithiasis, evaluating clinical results, patients' quality of life and reduction of complications. Methodology: The Cochrane, Scielo and Medline databases were used, searching for articles published between 2017 and 2024, in Portuguese or English. Final Considerations: The integration between surgery and clinical medicine in the treatment of cholelithiasis represents a promising and effective approach. The combination of surgical and clinical treatments not only improves clinical results, but also reduces complications and improves patients' quality of life. This integrated approach should be considered an essential part of cholelithiasis management, allowing a more complete and individualized approach for each patient.
