Abstract
This passage discusses the clinical aspects of inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) paresthesia after endodontic treatment and the appropriate treatment options for this complication. Endodontic procedures performed on lower posterior teeth can lead to complications such as inferior alveolar nerve (AIN) paresthesia due to the proximity of the apices of their roots to nerve bundles. Factors such as periapical infections, administration of local anesthesia, excessive instrumentation, excessive loading and improper use of intracanal medication and irrigant emission represent the greatest risk for this type of accident in endodontics. Inferior alveolar nerve paresthesia results in partial or complete loss of local sensitivity to stimuli such as cold and heat, often accompanied by a lack of pain, numbness, tingling and vibration. It is essential to be aware of clinical procedures that can cause paresthesia during endodontic treatment in order to prevent failures and accurately diagnose the condition. Treatment options for paresthesia vary widely and include observation/monitoring, pharmacologic therapy, nonsurgical endodontic treatment, physical therapy, acupuncture, low-level laser therapy, and surgical procedures.
