Abstract
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. This bacterial infection can be transmitted through direct contact with sores or lesions during sexual intercourse, including vaginal, anal, or oral activity, and it proves to be highly contagious. This condition has different stages, each presenting specific symptoms. The present study aims to assess cases of acquired syphilis between the years 2018 to 2022 in the state of Minas Gerais, evaluating the incidence of the disease in the population of Minas Gerais. To do so, the SINAN/DATASUS database was used to gather information about the disease. The collected data served as a parameter to understand the behavior of the illness in the 853 municipalities of Minas Gerais, as well as to define social profiles and identify the group with the highest disease statistics.
