Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which mainly affects the lungs, but can occur in other organs. Primary Health Care (PHC) plays a crucial role in tuberculosis control, being the gateway to the health system. Early diagnosis, adequate treatment and prevention of spread are essential at this level of care. APS plays a key role in identifying suspected cases by investigating symptoms such as persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. Carrying out the tuberculin skin test and additional tests, such as chest x-rays, are important tools in the diagnostic approach. Tuberculosis treatment is carried out with a combination of antibiotics for a minimum period of six months, which is crucial for a cure and interruption of transmission. APS also plays a fundamental role in ensuring adherence to treatment, monitoring and supporting patients throughout the process. Health education actions and awareness campaigns in PHC are important strategies to prevent tuberculosis, including information about transmission, symptoms and the importance of seeking early care. In summary, PHC plays a central role in the detection, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis, contributing to reducing the burden of the disease in the community and promoting public health. Tuberculosis (TB) represents a global public health challenge, and the role played by Primary Health Care (PHC) in the prevention, diagnosis and effective treatment of this infectious disease is crucial. PHC serves as the basis of the health system, working to identify suspected cases early, by addressing symptoms such as persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. Strategies such as the tuberculin skin test and imaging tests, such as chest radiography, are fundamental instruments for the diagnostic approach.
