Abstract

This article aims to carry out a comparative analysis of the number of hospitalizations and the total amount spent on patients with diabetes in the municipality of Cascavel and the state of Paraná between 2019 and 2022, in order to understand the epidemiological profile of inpatients and the amount invested in each site studied. Data from the public database of the Unified Health System (DataSUS), the Google Scholar search engine and renowned reference books were used. It was concluded that the state of Paraná has lower costs per hospitalization compared to the municipality, but in the state, hospitalizations for diabetes represent a higher percentage of total hospitalizations when compared to Cascavel. Therefore, it is understood that correct glycemic control and adequate drug therapy have a great impact on the patient and financially on public health.
