A orientação e realização da higiene oral é de competência da equipe de Enfermagem. Entretanto, esta atribuição é negligenciada na rotina de trabalho deste profissional que, seja por falta de conhecimento, uma sobrecarga de obrigações, ou por falta de um protocolo padrão de higiene bucal implementado nas instituições. O presente trabalho tem como objetivos revisar a literaturas acerca do nível de conhecimento da equipe de Enfermagem, que atua na realização ou supervisão dos cuidados de higiene oral em pacientes instáveis e imunocomprometidos na UTI. Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa da literatura de natureza aplicada, com abordagem qualitativa, exploratória e bibliográfica, em que foram selecionados trabalhos em português e inglês, dos últimos 10 anos (2013-2023). Foram realizadas buscas de artigos científicos, trabalho de conclusão de curso, dissertação e livros, de forma on-line, nas bases de dados Pubmed e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Pôde-se concluir que uma busca na literatura evidenciou prática de higiene oral insatisfatória ou negligenciada da equipe de enfermagem que alegou ter baixo conhecimento sobre saúde bucal. Estes profissionais sabem da importância da prevenção de infecções sistêmicas de origem bucal, porém, na sua rotina diária desvalorizam a manutenção da saúde bucal priorizando outras atribuições.
