Resumo

Este artigo tem por objetivo descrever o funcionamento, a maturação e as influências no sistema imune neonatal através de revisão bibliográfica. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa utilizando como base de dados a BVS, a SciELO, o LILACS e o PubMed, nos últimos 5 anos. Foram avaliados 252 artigos sobre o tema com ênfase em uma síntese dos conhecimentos mais recentes e de maior consistência científica. Conclui-se a importância e os benéficos da amamentação na primeira hora de vida do recém-nascido, sendo indispensável a rede de apoio familiar e uma assistência humanizada e de qualidade.
