Abstract

This is a narrative review of a critical and analytical nature, in research on the main concepts regarding the main updates regarding the diagnosis and management of Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) in pediatrics. A review of articles was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and PubMed databases, with the following Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): Urinary tract infection; Management; Pediatrics; Treatment. are frequently observed among bacterial infections in children. Studies indicate that up to 8% of children may experience at least one cystitis between the first month and 11 years of age, with up to 30% of infants and children experiencing recurrent episodes during the first 6 to 12 months after the initial episode. Rapid diagnosis of UTIs is crucial to initiating appropriate treatment and preventing morbidity and kidney damage. In children, diagnosis can be complicated by variable clinical presentation. Many cystitis may not be detected in time due to the non-specific nature of the symptoms, which highlights the need for high clinical suspicion on the part of pediatricians. A complete evaluation, including a detailed medical history and physical examination, is essential.
