VANTAGEM E DESVANTAGEM DO TRATAMENTO ENDODÔNTICO EM SESSÃO ÚNICA

O tratamento endodôntico em sessão única tem sido amplamente discutido na odontologia contemporânea devido aos avanços tecnológicos relacionados à instrumentação mecanizada, irrigação intracanal e materiais obturadores, permitindo maior previsibilidade clínica e redução do número de consultas. Essa modalidade terapêutica vem sendo considerada uma alternativa viável em diferentes situações clínicas, principalmente pela possibilidade de otimizar o atendimento odontológico e proporcionar maior comodidade ao paciente. O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar, por meio da literatura científica recente, as vantagens e desvantagens do tratamento endodôntico realizado em sessão única em comparação aos protocolos de múltiplas sessões, considerando aspectos clínicos, microbiológicos, operacionais e relacionados à experiência do paciente. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura de natureza qualitativa, descritiva e exploratória, realizada por meio de buscas nas bases de dados PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar e ScienceDirect, utilizando artigos publicados entre os anos de 2021 e 2026 nos idiomas português e inglês. Os estudos analisados demonstraram que a sessão única apresenta vantagens relacionadas à redução do tempo clínico, menor risco de contaminação entre consultas, diminuição da ansiedade do paciente e maior praticidade operacional. Entretanto, em casos de infecção persistente, exsudato, anatomias complexas ou lesões periapicais extensas, o tratamento em múltiplas sessões ainda pode representar alternativa mais segura para o controle microbiológico intracanal. Conclui-se que ambas as abordagens apresentam índices satisfatórios de sucesso terapêutico, sendo indispensável que a escolha do protocolo seja individualizada, baseada nas condições clínicas, biológicas e anatômicas de cada caso.
