ASSOCIAÇÃO ENTRE BRUXISMO E CEFALEIA

Resumo

O bruxismo é caracterizado pela atividade repetitiva dos músculos mastigatórios, podendo ocorrer durante o sono ou em vigília. Apresenta caráter multifatorial e pode estar associado a manifestações como o desgaste dentário, a dor muscular, as disfunções temporomandibulares e as cefaleias. O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a relação entre o bruxismo e as cefaleias, considerando os fatores envolvidos nessa associação e suas implicações clínicas. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura, de caráter descritivo e qualitativo, realizada por meio de buscas nas bases de dados PubMed, SciELO e Google Acadêmico. Os estudos analisados demonstram que a relação entre bruxismo e cefaleia é complexa e pode variar conforme o tipo de bruxismo e de cefaleia, além de envolver fatores como alterações da musculatura mastigatória e disfunções temporomandibulares. Os achados apontam diferenças nessa associação conforme as condições analisadas, com resultados mais evidentes para o bruxismo em vigília e a cefaleia do tipo tensional. Conclui-se que a avaliação adequada dessas condições e dos fatores associados é importante para direcionar o manejo individualizado e contribuir para o controle dos sintomas e para a qualidade de vida dos pacientes.
