Resumo

Introdução: A vitamina D, um hormônio esteroide lipossolúvel, desempenha papéis essenciais no metabolismo ósseo, imunomodulação e possui funções anti-inflamatórias e antimicrobianas. Recentemente, sua influência na saúde bucal tem ganhado destaque, com estudos associando sua deficiência a cárie dentária, periodontite, falha de implantes e lesões orais. Objetivos: Este estudo visa revisar os mecanismos fisiológicos da vitamina D, suas evidências clínicas e aplicações na saúde bucal. Metodologia: consiste em uma revisão integrativa da literatura, com buscas nas bases MEDLINE (via PubMed) e LILACS, utilizando combinações de termos relacionados à vitamina D e sua aplicação na odontologia, conectados por operadores booleanos (OR e AND). Foram incluídos artigos publicados nos últimos 5 anos, em português, inglês ou espanhol, garantindo uma seleção criteriosa e abrangente da produção científica. Resultados: Diversas doenças bucais são associadas aos níveis de vitamina D, incluindo cárie dentária, periodontite, câncer oral, distúrbios temporomandibulares, hipomineralização dentária, falha na osteointegração de implantes, líquen plano oral, leucoplasia oral, atraso na erupção dentária e outras condições inflamatórias. A vitamina D mostrou efeitos significativos na prevenção e tratamento dessas condições, atuando na modulação imunológica, regeneração óssea, mineralização dentária e osseointegração. Deficiências de vitamina D foram associadas a maior risco de falhas em implantes, perda óssea alveolar e progressão de doenças periodontais, destacando seu papel crucial na saúde bucal e sistêmica. Conclusão: A vitamina D desempenha um papel crucial na saúde bucal, influenciando significativamente desde doenças infecciosas, como cárie e periodontite, até condições inflamatórias crônicas e a osseointegração de implantes dentários. Sua ação imunomoduladora e anti-inflamatória reforça sua importância na prevenção e manejo de lesões orais e doenças periodontais.
