Abstract

The present experience report describes an intervention conducted by medical students from PUC Goiás, in Goiânia, during the event “A Day for the Planet.” The main objective of the action was to raise awareness in the local community about the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and engaging in regular physical activity. The initiative, which took place at the Jesus of Nazareth Church, in the Jardim Curitiba neighborhood, in September 2024, included interactive educational dynamics, such as discussion circles, the use of explanatory posters, and the application of a tool from the Brazilian Diabetes Society (SBD) to calculate the risk of developing diabetes. The results showed an increased understanding among participants of the risks associated with poor diet and physical inactivity, as well as a greater intention to adopt healthier habits. However, the challenges of implementing these changes, especially due to socioeconomic and structural issues, were highlighted. The intervention emphasized the importance of continuous and integrated strategies to effectively and sustainably promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles.
