Abstract
Introduction: TB is a major challenge for public health, resulting in high morbidity and mortality rates, in addition to generating high costs for both health systems and society. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the causative agent of tuberculosis, one of the infections that results in the most deaths in the world. Objective: to describe the clinical and epidemiological profile of tuberculosis in the Northeast region between 2019 and 2023. Methodology: observational, descriptive and retrospective study, through the collection of clinical and epidemiological data of diagnosed cases of tuberculosis in the Northeast region, from 2019 to 2023. The absolute and relative frequencies of the variables applied and selected in the SINAN tab were calculated for the preparation of the study: "year of diagnosis", "sex", "age group", "race/color", "HIV", "AIDS", "laboratory confirmation", "1st sputum smear microscopy", "2nd sputum smear microscopy", "sputum culture" and "clinical form of infection". Results: From 2019 to 2023, 126,153 cases of tuberculosis were diagnosed in the Northeast. The results showed a higher prevalence among men (69.17%), brown individuals (66.90%), adults between 20 and 39 years old (43.22%), with a low rate of HIV (9.91%) and AIDS (8.25%) co-infection, with a high number of cases confirmed by laboratory confirmation (63%), with sputum smear microscopy and culture being frequently positive diagnostic methods, in addition to the pulmonary form being the most frequent clinical manifestation with 85.63%. Conclusion: Mapping the epidemiological profile of tuberculosis is essential for the creation and adoption of new strategies aimed at reducing septicemia and decreasing the mortality rate.
