Abstract

Brain tumors in children represent a significant challenge in pediatric oncology, being the second most common neoplasm in this age group. Early diagnosis is crucial for successful treatment, involving advanced imaging techniques and detailed neurological examinations. Recently, therapeutic advances have provided new hope, including more precise and less invasive treatments such as proton radiotherapy and molecularly targeted therapies. Objective: Review diagnostic methods and recent therapeutic advances in the treatment of brain tumors in children, highlighting technological and therapeutic innovations. Methodology: The research was conducted through online access to the databases Documentation on Health Sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean (LILACS), Health Sciences Information Center in Latin America and the Caribbean (Bireme), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and Virtual Health Library (VHL) during the month of June 2024. Results and Discussion: A significant improvement in early detection is evident, thanks to the use of advanced imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography (PET). These technologies allow for more accurate visualization of injuries, facilitating the creation of more effective treatment plans. Despite significant advances, there are still challenges to be overcome, such as unequal access. Final Considerations:  In conclusion, advances in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors in children have provided significant improvements in patients' survival rates and quality of life. The development of new imaging technologies and less invasive therapies, such as radiotherapy and targeted therapies, demonstrate promising progress.
