Abstract

The loss of teeth in the posterior maxillary region results in bone remodeling and pneumatization of the maxillary sinus, complicating dental implant rehabilitation due to insufficient bone height. This report aims to demonstrate a hybrid technique for maxillary sinus lift via the crest, using bone expanders and compactors (Bone Expander). A 49-year-old female patient sought treatment for the installation of an implant in the region of tooth 27. A single implant with maxillary sinus lift via the crest was proposed for the insertion of a Cone Morse (CM) 4.5 x 10 mm implant. The implant socket preparation followed Summers' principles, using bone expanders from the Bone Expander® Kit to compact the socket and ensure implant stability. The maxillary sinus floor was breached with the Trefine LSM® (Maximus), and the lift was performed using the Summers' Compactor with stop® (Maximus). Finally, the last expander was used for the insertion of biomaterial into the shaped socket. The implant was inserted with a locking torque of 35 N/cm². The presented hybrid technique is a modification of Summers' technique, replacing Summers' osteotomes with the Bone Expander. Additionally, the alveolar wall was compacted, improving primary stability and providing greater patient comfort.
