Abstract

To provide knowledge about polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and its pathophysiology, etiology and possible treatments. Literature Review: PCOS is a disorder caused by a hormonal imbalance in women. It is an endocrine disease that affects women who have given birth and is highly hereditary, and these changes are also observed in the uterine environment. It is determined by irregular menstrual cycles, high levels of androgens in the body, small follicles in the ovaries, absence of follicles or irregular release of eggs from the ovaries, excess androgens and clinical symptoms such as hirsutism, alopecia. In addition to acne, bleeding, infertility and weight problems, it is considered a risk factor for the development of other diseases. The medical approach aims to reduce the symptoms of hyperandrogenism, re-educate the diet and adjust each patient's lipid profile. Final considerations: Therefore, PCOS today presents confusion in all parameters and treatment must include a multidisciplinary team to make the woman happy and her well-being
