EVOLUTION OF NEW DENGUE CASES IN MINAS GERAIS BETWEEN 2016 AND 2024: AN ECOLOGICAL STUDY

Abstract

Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, causing high fever, severe body aches, and, in severe cases, can lead to death. This research focuses on analyzing the incidence of dengue in the state of Minas Gerais between the years 2018 and the first semester of 2024. The choice of Minas Gerais is due to its geographical position and climatic variations, which provide a favorable environment for the proliferation of the vector mosquito. For this study, data obtained from the Information System for Notifiable Diseases (SINAN), managed by the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), was used. The methodology includes the tabulation and detailed analysis of reported cases, allowing an in-depth understanding of the disease's distribution across the different regions of the state. In addition to the absolute number of cases, the study also considers the incidence and prevalence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, enabling a more accurate and contextualized comparison. The main objective of this work is to map the evolution of dengue in Minas Gerais, identify seasonal and geographical patterns, and detect possible factors influencing the increase or decrease of cases over the studied period. It is hoped that this will provide insights for developing more effective control and prevention strategies for the disease, contributing to the improvement of public health in the state.
