Abstract

Between 2006 and 2007, the electronic cigarette (EC) emerged in the United States and European countries and, to this day, its dissemination has been increasingly increasing in the world market. The CE's fame has been growing in society, especially among young people. However, there are no precise studies on the safety of its recurring use, a fact that has led Brazilian authorities to prohibit its commercialization in the country. The present study is a systematic literature review, with a descriptive and analytical character, according to PRISMA guidelines, in the study of the risks of using electronic cigarettes, especially among young people. The following question was determined as a study question: WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE RECURRING USE OF ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES? A search for articles was carried out in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online (MEDLINE) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases with the following Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): Adolec, Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems, Lung Diseases, Review Literature as Topic and Signs and Symptoms, combined by the Boolean operator AND and OR, between the years 2019 and 2021, in English, Portuguese and Spanish. It is completely evident that cigarettes cause thousands of deaths around the world, above all, electronic cigarettes have proven to be an emerging harm and a major public health problem. This study showed that, in most cases, the use of nicotine caused the denaturalization of the organism.
