Abstract
The objective of this study is to evaluate the acceptance of the vaccine against COVID-19 and the factors or reasons for its refusal in an obstetric population of a Basic Health Unit in Campina Grande-PB. This is an observational, analytical and cross-sectional study about the factors that interfere with adherence to the COVID-19 vaccine by pregnant women treated at a Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Campina Grande, Paraíba. Data were collected from an adapted questionnaire, which was previously developed to assess the acceptability of the COVID-19 vaccine in Cameroon and published by Dinga et al (2021). Among the main factors that were reported as limiting factors for considering vaccination safe, two stand out: the development time of the vaccine and the opinion of health professionals. In the present study, vaccine refusal occurred in 20% of pregnant women. Older patients, the presence of previous comorbidities, low education, good knowledge about the vaccine and its effectiveness were independent predictors of vaccination adherence against the SARS-CoV-2 virus in this research. Given this, more studies are needed to understand the differential risk between the main determinants that endorse vaccine hesitancy, in addition to designing strategies with the aim of combating this global problem.
