Abstract
Introduction: Asthma crisis is an exacerbation of asthma that affects the patient's quality of life suddenly, causing personal and public health impairments, and requiring immediate management. Objectives: to evaluate how self-management of asthma crises is carried out by patients followed in Primary Health Care (PHC) and what strategies could improve this follow-up. Methodology: This study consists of an integrative review of the literature with a quantitative and qualitative approach, collecting articles from databases such as Medical Publisher (PUBMED), Virtual Health Library (VHL), and the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) using the descriptors "Self-Management," "Status Asthmaticus," and "Primary Health Care." Results: In Primary Health Care (PHC), tools such as focus groups, education on proper medication administration, differential diagnoses, and telemedicine groups were highlighted as effective in controlling asthma crisis, as revealed by the research. Conclusion: The research emphasized the effectiveness of focus groups in PHC for managing asthma crisis but highlighted the need to improve other strategies for a more comprehensive control of the respiratory condition.
