Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To highlight the need for health education about the use of adequate contraceptives.  METHOD: The present study consists of a review of the integrative literature, stipulated through 6 methodological steps that were followed in an orderly manner to carry out the study, namely: definition of the guiding question, sampling in the literature, data collection, critical analysis of the included studies, discussion of the results and presentation of the integrative review. The filter used for the searches was with the descriptors; (Contraceptive) AND (Health Education) AND (Women). RESULTS: The final sample consisted of 9 studies that resulted in the following categories for discussion: Women's knowledge about different contraceptive methods and The role of the health service in ensuring reproductive health. CONCLUSION: It was possible to conclude that there is an extreme need for health education actions aimed at women of reproductive age, for better clarification on the types of contraceptives, such as indications, risks and benefits, making it possible to identify the most appropriate method, aiming to offer better health conditions for this population.
