Abstract

Objective: To understand the relationship between food consumption and the risk of cardiovascular problems. Methods: This is a narrative review of the literature, which was carried out through a search on the PubMed targeting platform, using the descriptions joined by the AND operator: cardiovascular diseases; healthy eating; relationship between foods; cardiovascular health. Bibliographic Review: Several studies have investigated the role of specific nutrients and food groups in preventing or increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Some of these foods include saturated fats, trans fats, omega-3 fatty acids, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These studies seek to identify the mechanisms by which these foods can affect the cardiovascular system, in addition to quantifying the impact of their intake on the incidence and severity of cardiovascular diseases. It is important to emphasize that the relationship between food consumption and cardiovascular disease is complex and multifactorial. Genetic factors, lifestyle, other dietary components, and other risk factors such as smoking and physical inactivity also play a role. Conclusion: Therefore, it is essential to consider these aspects when interpreting study results and formulating nutritional recommendations.
