Resumo
Introdução: A terapia fotodinâmica antimicrobiana (PDT) é uma estratégia que envolve a interação química de um fotossensibilizador não-tóxico tópico, uma fonte de luz com comprimento de onda especifico e de uma forma não invasiva. O fotossensibilizador libera aluzque reage como oxigênio molecular do ambiente para gerar espécies altamente reativas de oxigênio, o que irá causar a ruptura da parede celular e consequentemente a morte da célula. O trabalho teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura acerca da eficácia do uso da PDT associada ao preparo químico-mecânico para uma melhor desinfecção dos canais radiculares. Métodos: Está revisão foi realizada através de uma pesquisa abrangente sobre a eficácia da terapia fotodinâmica na desinfecção dos canais radiculares, utilizando a base de dados Pubmed, com as palavras chaves Photodynamic Therapy in Endodontic and Covid, e de resultado foram encontrados 148 artigos e resultouem 30 artigos quando se aplicou o critério de inclusão e exclusão. Conclusão: Podemos concluir que ouso da PDT é eficaz na desinfecção dos canais radiculares após o PQM. Com isso aumentamos o poder antimicrobiano do tratamento endodôntico sobre áreas não alcançadas pela ação química e mecânica. E atualmente nos tempos de Covid-19, torna interessante o uso da PDT para diminuir o número de sessões.
