Abstract

The study investigates the effectiveness of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in improving social and behavioral skills in individuals on the autism spectrum. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often presents significant challenges in social interaction, communication, and adaptive behaviors. ABA is a therapeutic approach that focuses on understanding and modifying behavior, using techniques and strategies based on behavioral scientific principles. The research encompasses a detailed review of the literature, analyzing studies that investigated the effects of ABA on social and behavioral skills of individuals with ASD. Results consistently reveal significant improvements in several areas, such as social interaction, communication, and adaptive behaviors, when ABA is implemented in a consistent and personalized way. Studies demonstrate that ABA, when applied intensively and individually, can be effective in promoting and improving social and behavioral skills in children, adolescents and adults with ASD. Analysis of the effectiveness of ABA highlights the importance of early and structured interventions to improve the quality of life and independence of these individuals. The research also points to the need for more in-depth, long-term studies that consider individual variations and the long-term effects of ABA on social and behavioral skills. Furthermore, a holistic approach is essential, considering other factors that may influence the development of these skills, such as the social environment, family support and the combination of different therapeutic modalities. In summary, the analysis reveals that ABA has demonstrated to be a promising approach in improving social and behavioral skills in individuals with ASD, but emphasizes the importance of a multifaceted approach and the need for continued research to improve interventions aimed at these individuals.
