Abstract
This study is a literature review that analyzed the contributions of panoramic radiography to the diagnosis of supernumerary teeth in pediatric patients. The search for articles was conducted in the Pubmed, SciElo, and BVS databases over a five-year period in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, using the keywords “supernumerary teeth,” “hyperdontia,” and “panoramic radiography.” It was concluded that the clinical repercussions include delayed eruption of permanent teeth, crowding, positional deviations, prolonged retention of deciduous teeth, and root resorption, compromising masticatory and aesthetic functions, with a direct impact on self-esteem and social interaction, especially in children. Thus, for diagnosis, panoramic radiography is the first-choice examination, as it allows a comprehensive view of the maxillomandibular complex in a single projection, providing preventive diagnosis for both erupted and impacted teeth.
