Abstract
Objective: This study aims to conduct a comprehensive literature review regarding the implementation of the "Golden Hour" and the associated factors. It seeks publications that delve into the pertinent aspects of this subject, with the goal of disseminating knowledge and encouraging reflection while providing evidence-based recommendations for healthcare professionals. Method: This review adopts an integrative approach to the literature. The systematic process encompasses the following stages: a) formulation of the guiding research question, b) literature search and selection, c) data collection, critical analysis of the included studies, and d) discussion of the findings. Articles were meticulously sourced from databases such as NCBI PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), and CAPES Journals. The initial pool comprised 536 potential articles, which underwent rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, duplicate removal, and thorough full-text examination, ultimately resulting in the inclusion of 10 studies in this review. Conclusion: The findings reveal a limited adherence to the "Golden Hour" protocol within maternity services. Several influential factors negatively impact the execution of essential practices like skin-to-skin contact and early breastfeeding during the first hour of an infant's life. Key determinants in this regard include the mother's educational background, a lack of awareness regarding the "Golden Hour," mode of delivery, birth weight, Apgar score, gestational age of the newborn, and high hospital staff turnover. It becomes evident that addressing social and structural challenges is imperative to facilitate the effective implementation of the "Golden Hour" protocol.
