Abstract
Lasers are classified into low power and high power. They can be used in different areas of dentistry, their applicability in pediatric dentistry is gaining ground, such as in cavity preparations, lingual and lip brake surgeries, orthodontics and biomodulation of oral lesions. The objective of this work was to identify the types of laser used in the care of children, and the relevance of their use in clinical experience. An integrative review of the literature was carried out, through electronic searches in the following databases: BVS, LILACS, SciELO and PubMed between the years 2018 and 2023 with the key words “laser”, “lasertherapy” and “pediatric dentistry” isolated and associated using the boolean operator “and”. A total of 18 articles were selected after using the inclusion and exclusion criteria. From the research carried out, the applicability of high-power lasers was used to perform surgeries, lingual and labial frenotomy, presenting a significant improvement when compared to traditional techniques in addition to carrying out cavity preparations. On the other hand, low-power lasers, in their different wavelengths, can be used as adjuvants in bone regeneration, healing and photobiomodulation in oral lesions, in addition to their use as an adjuvant treatment in orthodontic treatments. Therefore, it is concluded that low and high-power lasers are considerable options for use in the daily lives of dentists and pediatric dentists, bringing relevant benefits to clinical practice.
