Abstract

Introduction: In Brazil, Dengue virus (DENV) is reported to be transmitted exclusively by Aedes aegypti in urban environments, but studies indicate the possibility of this virus spreading to rural environments, imposing additional challenges for disease control. Objective: To show dengue cases in urban areas and its strong growth in rural areas of Amazonas. Methodology: This is a retrospective study, with public data extracted from epidemiological bulletins of FVS-Amazonas. Results: Between January and December 2024, 99,608 cases of dengue were reported in Amazonas, of which 37,851 (38%) were only in rural areas, an increase of 37.2% in 2024 compared to 2023, with the majority being between 20 and 29 years old (19%), a large part in men (56%), brown skin color (62%), considered indigenous (31%). The municipalities with the highest percentage of consecutively reported cases were: Manaus (37.1%), São Gabriel da Cachoira (18.9%), Barcelos (11.4%) and Tefé (10.9%). Conclusion: Dengue control should be considered a priority in risk areas, maintaining the focus of epidemiological and entomological surveillance, mainly, in rural areas
