Abstract
This article aims to analyze the main aspects of the cases of human visceral leishmaniasis (HVL) reported in the state of Ceará and thus attempt to show in a didactic and direct way what the main characteristics identified are. The data platform of SINAN (Notifiable Diseases Information System), one of the information systems of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, was used as a source of information. It is concluded in this article that notifications of the disease between 2020 and 2024 were more prevalent in male, brown patients, aged 20 to 59 years, without HIV co-infection and with laboratory diagnosis. The state located in the Brazilian Northeast has faced an increase in the number of cases of visceral leishmaniasis, which has generated concern in the context of local public health. Data from the Ministry of Health indicate that Ceará is among the states with the highest burden of the disease, with a geographic distribution that includes both the capital, Fortaleza, and other municipalities in the interior.
