Abstract

Introduction: All people who have exposure to mammals should seek a health unit, either to receive guidance on observing the animal, where possible, or to carry out prophylaxis. Objective: to show the panorama and epidemiological profile of cases of care for human anti-rabies prophylaxis in Amazonas in the year 2024. Methodology: survey of secondary information existing on official websites of the Ministry of Health. Results: In the political-administrative division, Amazonas has 62 municipalities with its capital, the municipality of Manaus, with 52.25% of the state's population concentration. In 2024, 66% of the municipalities in Amazonas reached the goal of anti-rabies vaccination in animals. On the other hand, Manaus was also the city with the highest number of health problems involving animals that transmit rabies, requiring rabies care with 6,044 cases (57.1%), followed by Humaitá with only 337 (3.2%) and Parintins with 319 cases (3.0%). The majority of cases were male (54%) and residents of urban areas (72%). The city of Canutama did not receive any care during the year. Conclusion: in addition to the need to consolidate public policies aimed at this problem, there is also concern about the cities that are further away from the state capital, given that in Amazonas the most common means of transportation is river navigation. This situation, which depends on the low water levels of the rivers, may hinder or delay the arrival of vaccines and other supplies to the most distant cities.
