Abstract

Introduction: Congenital toxoplasmosis is a neglected disease with widespread geographical distribution and presents a significant challenge to healthcare services and professionals due to the lack of screening in many countries. Objective: To evaluate the impact of prenatal care on the early diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis in Brazil. Methods: This is a systematic literature review. The terms “(Congenital Toxoplasmosis)”, “(Prenatal Diagnosis)”, and “(Brazil)” were used with the boolean operator AND. The databases BVS, PubMed, and SciELO were used, analyzing the studies covering the period from 2014 to December 2023. Results: 62 articles were found in the databases, 14 of which were analyzed. 6 studies showed that the lack of guidance on toxoplasmosis in prenatal care is due to insufficient qualifications of professionals to be able to provide adequate information to pregnant women about toxoplasmosis. Conclusion: Prenatal care plays an essential role in the diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis. However, diagnostic tools must be utilized to ensure efficient care for both mother and child.
