Abstract

Melasma is a dermatological condition characterized by hyperpigmentation of the skin, particularly in sun-exposed areas. This review article aims to explore recent advances in melasma treatment, focusing on combination therapies and new therapeutic approaches. The literature analysis revealed that combination therapies, such as the use of topical agents with laser therapy and chemical peels, have shown greater efficacy in reducing pigmentation compared to monotherapies. Additionally, new depigmenting molecules, such as tranexamic acid and tyrosinase inhibitors, are emerging as promising alternatives, although further studies are needed to confirm their long-term safety and effectiveness. The individualization of treatment, taking into account the type of melasma and the patient's specific characteristics, is essential to maximize benefits and minimize risks. Despite advancements, melasma recurrence remains a challenge, highlighting the importance of continuous treatment adherence and the development of new therapeutic strategies. This article concludes that while significant progress has been made, managing melasma requires a careful and personalized approach.
