Abstract
Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder with multiple associated factors, in which 1 in 36 children has this condition. Therefore, it is essential that professional family nurses are prepared to recognize the clinical signs of ASD. Objective: To describe the importance of the Family Health Strategy nurse’s perspective in diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review study carried out using the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) database, Nursing database (BDENF) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Therefore, the health science descriptors (Decs) associated with the operational connectors “AND” were used to search the databases, being: “Nursing AND Primary Care AND Autism”. Results: The perspective of nursing, which is located at the first gateway to the single health system, is of paramount importance for the early and timely diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, since these professionals have an affective professional bond with the community, having the duty and caring and welcoming, and for this to happen means of continued education must be the way forward. Final Considerations: Therefore, it is essential that nursing professionals are trained to identify the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and differentiate it from other syndromes, offering support to the patient and family. Primary health care must involve and train these professionals to identify the signs of ASD early, providing comprehensive assistance.
