Abstract
Congenital syphilis is a significant public health condition caused by the vertical transmission of Treponema pallidum during pregnancy. Despite being preventable with proper diagnosis and treatment, the disease persists as one of the leading causes of preventable neonatal death, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In Brazil, the high incidence reflects challenges related to access to and quality of prenatal care, as well as failures in early diagnosis and maternal treatment. This study analyzes the epidemiological profile and anatomical changes associated with congenital syphilis in southern Brazil, highlighting the importance of preventive strategies and effective management to reduce morbidity and mortality.
