Abstract
Abstract: The Unified Health System (SUS) represented a notable advance in the protection of public health in Brazil. In the national context, its importance is unquestionable, having evolved, albeit with some challenges, over the last 30 years. This study aims to analyze the trajectory of the SUS and identify perspectives for its development and modernization, based on the proposal of decentralized and participatory management. With the transition from the intervening State to a regulatory-controlling State, influenced by the neoliberal thinking that has gained space in the Brazilian economy, we seek to examine the historical development and components of the Brazilian health system, with an emphasis on the reform process of recent years. , including the creation of the SUS. Furthermore, advances in the health sector will be addressed, related to investments in human resources, science and technology, and primary care, the process of substantial decentralization, broad social participation and growing public awareness of the right to health. The central question this article faces is: How can the SUS, after more than 30 years, evolve more quickly, promoting a broader and more efficient provision of public health services? The methodology adopted is deductive, with bibliographical research based on legislation, jurisprudence and doctrine. The first chapter of this work contextualizes the adoption and consolidation of the SUS in Brazil; the second and third chapters address, respectively, its structure and financing, as well as the evolution perspectives for the coming years.
