Abstract

Introduction: Radiology plays a crucial role in medical education but faces challenges in its curricular integration. To address this gap, an extracurricular course was designed using Case-Based Learning (CBL) methodology, aimed at enhancing clinical reasoning and the understanding of medical imaging applications. Experience Report: The course was conducted online, with 93 students enrolled over a 21-day period. Sessions focused on analyzing clinical cases involving radiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging for conditions such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, and stroke. Detailed planning included task distribution, speaker selection, and the preparation of relevant clinical topics. The CBL methodology fostered active participation through pre-distributed materials and structured discussions. Discussion: The course achieved high engagement, with 74 students actively participating. The active learning approach effectively improved clinical reasoning but underscored the need for theoretical preparation and a gradual progression of content. Combining theoretical and practical components strengthened the learning process, particularly for complex topics such as neuroimaging. Emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and simulation, were identified as valuable tools to enhance future iterations of the course. Conclusions: The CBL methodology proved effective in promoting meaningful learning and addressing gaps in medical education. Despite challenges, such as variability in students' prior knowledge, the course emphasized the importance of progressively integrating radiology education into the medical curriculum through innovative and collaborative approaches.
