Abstract

It is a contact dermatitis also known as “fuetazo”, caused by the paderin contained in the hemolymph of an insect of the genus Paederus, which is released on the skin. In Ecuador there are two types, paederus ornaticornis and paederus irritans. The incidence of cases is highest during the last quarter of the year, the period immediately following the winter season. It is characterized by a vesico-pustulous eruption on an erythematous base, in exposed areas such as the face, neck, arms and legs. It does not affect the palms of the hands or the soles of the feet because the skin is thicker. The diagnosis is made by the clinical manifestations and the epidemiological setting. The objective of this publication is to present a clinical case, and to evaluate the epidemiology and clinical manifestations, since it is usually underdiagnosed and mismanaged, causing           a          delay   in         its resolution.
