Abstract
This article aims to conduct a literature review on the techniques used for maxillary sinus lift and their influence on oral rehabilitation with osseointegrated implants, considering the most recent findings in the literature. The electronic search of scientific articles was carried out using the Pubmed, Scopus, and BIREME databases, covering the period from July 2014 to December 2023. For the search research, the descriptor "techniques" was crossed with the descriptors "lift" and "maxillary sinus" and were selected according to the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). Articles were included according to the defined exclusion criteria. Regarding the results, the search of 361 published studies resulted in the choice of 41 articles to compose the literature review. Thus, we can conclude that both the traumatic and atraumatic techniques have demonstrated clinical efficacy, although recent changes still require further studies to validate their real efficacy. The choice of technique depends on the bone remnant to ensure surgical success. The Summers technique has a lower risk of perforation compared to the modified osteotome technique. The hemostatic balloon technique does not appear to have a risk of perforation of the sinus membrane. Tatum's traumatic technique carries a high risk of perforation. Piezosurgery uses instruments with ultrasonic microvibrations that prevent perforations of this tissue. Therefore, the selection of the surgical technique should be made based on the specific clinical needs of each case, strictly respecting all relevant anatomical structures to minimize possible complications.
