EFFECTIVENESS OF MECHANICAL LIPOSUCTION COMPARED TO ENZYMATIC LIPOSUCTION: LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

Contemporary dentistry has pioneered several areas, one of which is orofacial harmonization, which is recognized as a specialty that involves a set of procedures in an area that is exclusively the responsibility of the dental surgeon, with a reduced training in the head and neck, and is not restricted to teeth but the entire orofacial structure. The demand for facial aesthetics has been increasing more and more. One of the most requested procedures improves facial contours, which is mechanical chin liposuction surgery, ahead of the positive results obtained in relation to enzymatic chin liposuction. Each has its own indications and approaches, requiring an individualized evaluation, taking into account the main complaint and the patient's expectations; clarifying the information, postoperative guidelines and the risks that may be incurred. Methodology: This research is a literature review, with the purpose of answering the guiding question: Why is mechanical chin liposuction better than enzymatic chin liposuction? The bibliographic survey was conducted through online access to dentistry articles published in Portuguese and English in the main databases: Google Scholar, ABRAHOF, PUBMED and BVS, using the following descriptors: Lipectomy, orofacial harmonization, local anesthesia and aesthetics. Results: Thirty-five articles were found, of which 9 were selected when the inclusion and exclusion criteria were analyzed. Conclusion: As final considerations, it is evident that mechanical liposuction of the chin brings more effective immediate results when compared to enzymatic liposuction of the chin.
