Abstract

Introduction: Vertical transmission of HIV, when prophylaxis interventions are not carried out, occurs in approximately 25% of pregnancies of infected women. Objective: To show the detection rates of HIV/AIDS infection in pregnant women in the state of Amazonas between the years 2012 and 2022. Methodology: This is a survey of secondary information existing on official websites of the Ministry of Health (SINAN/NET) referring to AIDS cases in Amazonas from 2012 to 2022. Results: Between 2012 and 2023, 47,714 cases of HIV infection were reported in the Northern Region of Brazil, of which 10,956 were in pregnant women aged between 20 and 29 years, 24 .2% had completed high school, 3,369 of whom lived in Amazonas, and 41% of these infections were detected before prenatal care. The average detection rate (per 1,000 live births) of pregnant women with HIV reported in the period was 5.6. Conclusion: The AIDS detection rate among pregnant women has been growing annually, but there are currently interventions that serve as instruments to break the chain of transmission.
