Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, according to the World Health Organization, is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from insulin resistance and/or a deficiency in insulin secretion. Remission of this pathology occurs when patients no longer meet the diagnostic criteria for the disease and do not use medications for glycemic control, maintaining glycated hemoglobin levels below 6.5% (48 mmol/mol). Previously established mechanisms, such as bariatric surgery and the use of medications, are highly relevant in the remission of the disease. However, with the advancement of personalized medicine, the role of nutritional interventions has gained prominence as a non-invasive and functional method for diabetes remission. This study aims to conduct a narrative review of the current medical literature to evaluate the impact of nutritional interventions on the reversal of type 2 diabetes mellitus through a critical analysis of 17 articles published between 2019 and 2024.
